The Office of Institutional Equity is changing its name to the Office of Civil Rights Compliance. The new name aligns with our peer institutions and reflects the work that we do to comply with a range of civil rights laws.
Our mission
The mission of the Office of Civil Rights Compliance (OCRC) exists to help the university community prevent and respond to all forms of protected class harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct. OCRC oversees the university’s compliance with civil rights law including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title VI, Title VII, and Title IX.
The mission of OCRC is to protect the rights of each individual and to ensure their equal access in all aspects of employment, education, and participation within the university.
As part of that work, we:
- Investigate and respond to complaints of discrimination and harassment against IU faculty, staff, and students.
- Provide information, consultation, and training regarding search and screen processes, disability awareness, Title IX, and discrimination and harassment prevention.
- Coordinate the university’s compliance with its Non-Discrimination policy,Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policy, and Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct policy, Employee Relationships Involving Students policy as well as, other relevant laws and regulations.
